Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has doubled down on his support for the viral satirical outfit Cockroach Janta Party, saying suppressing such movements in a democracy would be 'foolish'.
Tharoor welcomed the pushback to his earlier comments praising the emergence of the meme-driven political satire movement, which has exploded across social media platforms in recent days.
He argued that democracy needs outlets for frustration and that the movement had tapped into 'an important strain of national sentiment among our youth.'
Using a pressure cooker analogy, Tharoor said such movements function as democratic safety valves, serving to 'let off steam' and prevent chaos or revolution.
He called for the suspension on X to be revoked, saying 'Let's lift the ban and tune in!'
