The Trinamool Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to influence the outcome of the upcoming election polls in West Bengal by transporting voters from Surat, Gujarat, to Bengal.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien has written a letter to the Election Commission stating that the BJP is violating election laws by deploying special trains to transport voters.

O'Brien attached links to social media posts and a story by Deccan Herald to support his claim, saying that the Indian Railways cannot be used for partisan electoral purposes.

Many migrant workers from Bengal, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh were seen boarding the trains, which were accompanied by local BJP units.

The TMC MP has further alleged that the BJP is resorting to bribery and undue influence, carrying out corrupt practices.

West Bengal will be heading to the polls in a two-phase election on April 23 and April 29, with the results to be declared on May 4.
