Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has penned a powerful poem in support of jailed activist Umar Khalid, who was denied bail by the Supreme Court in a case related to the 2020 north-east Delhi riots. Moitra's poem, titled "You Will Rise, Umar Khalid," echoes the resilience and determination of those fighting for justice. The Supreme Court's decision on Monday denied bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, but granted relief to four other activists, including Gulfisha Fatima and Meeran Haider. The court's ruling has sparked a heated debate, with BJP leaders condemning the alleged sloganeering against Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the incident as a "wicked intention" that would be crushed, while BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused the Congress and Left parties of prioritizing individuals like Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam over national security. Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood also criticized the sloganeering, calling it "unfortunate and condemnable.
