Trinamool Congress lawmaker Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has accused her party colleague Kalyan Banerjee of misogyny and verbal abuse, seeking Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's permission to file a complaint.

Ghosh Dastidar alleged that Banerjee has repeatedly verbally abused her inside the Lok Sabha chamber, and that this misogyny has been against many women members and needs to be punished.

The move comes after Ghosh Dastidar stepped down as chief of the TMC's women's wing, citing the party's inability to protect her from abuse.

Banerjee hit back at Dastidar, questioning her intentions and reminding her of past controversies, including the Narada sting operation.

The formal complaint has created a fresh tussle within the beleaguered TMC, with Ghosh Dastidar further alienating herself from the party.
