Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to explore ways to deepen ties with the Congress.
The meeting comes amid a string of setbacks to Mamata Banerjee's party, including the loss of 59 MLAs and two Rajya Sabha MPs.
TMC leaders dismissed speculation of a merger with the Congress as 'baseless', but underlined the party's changed approach after facing reversals in Bengal.
The two leaders discussed 'a lot of issues', including the plans of the INDIA alliance and improving coordination among Opposition parties.
The TMC is also in touch with the DMK and has coordinated with the Congress on the schedule and planning for the INDIA alliance.
