TN to Deploy Record 59,095 Buses for Pongal Festival

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a massive transportation plan to manage the Pongal festival rush, deploying a total of 59,095 buses across the state. Transport Minister S S Sivasankar revealed that 10,245 special buses will be added to the existing 2,092 daily scheduled buses in Chennai, operating between January 9 and 14. Additionally, 11,290 special buses will be operated from other districts, totaling 34,087 buses during this period. For the return journey, the government has planned to operate 25,008 buses, with 6,820 special buses and 2,092 daily scheduled buses operating between January 16 and 19. Passengers can book tickets using the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation mobile application, website, and WhatsApp number. A 24x7 control room has been set up at the Kilambakkam bus terminus to provide information on bus schedules and routes. To report issues such as excess fare collection by private bus operators, passengers can contact the toll-free numbers provided by the government. Feeder buses from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation will operate 24 hours a day from Koyambedu to Kilambakkam and Madhavaram bus terminuses.
