A two-year-old boy, Bhagirath Dewasi, met a tragic end after falling into a 200-foot-deep borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district. The child was declared dead after a 22-hour rescue operation, with officials confirming drowning as the cause of death.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when Bhagirath, who was playing near the borewell, used a stone to dislodge its cover and fell into the shaft. Despite immediate rescue efforts by joint teams of the SDRF and NDRF, the child could not be saved.
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh for the boy's parents. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the tragedy, with strict action to be taken against anyone found responsible.
