Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Lindsey Halligan, a former White House aide for President Donald Trump, is facing an investigation by the Florida Bar over her turbulent time as the acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The investigation centers on Halligan's brief but tumultuous tenure, during which she pursued cases against Trump's opponents but was ultimately forced to leave after her appointment was deemed unlawful.

A complaint filed with the Florida Bar alleges that Halligan may have violated rules of professional conduct by continuing to hold herself out as acting U.S. attorney after a judge ruled that her appointment was illegal.

The Campaign for Accountability, a nonprofit watchdog, had sought the bar inquiry and published a letter confirming the pending investigation.
