UP Governor Launches Innovative Pearl Farming Project, Empowering Farmers on Kisan Diwas

In a bid to boost farmers' income and create new livelihood opportunities, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel launched a pearl farming project at the Raj Bhavan premises on Kisan Diwas. The initiative, a collaboration between the Governor's office and private agri-business company MNI Agro Hub Private Limited, aims to promote sustainable and profitable agricultural practices. During the launch, Governor Patel emphasized the importance of innovation in agriculture, stating that it is a powerful means to enhance farmers' income and create new opportunities. She also highlighted the success story of a farmer named JP Pandey from Ballia district, who has successfully reared Gir-breed cows and is now earning lakhs of rupees. MNI Agro Hub Director Anand Tripathi explained that pearl farming is a scientific, sustainable, and profitable agricultural enterprise that can yield an average net income of up to ₹8.5 lakh over 18 months. He also highlighted that the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana provides up to 50 per cent subsidy for pearl farming. The project involves the cultivation of oysters in a controlled environment, with MNI Agro Hub providing technical training, supervision, and marketing support to farmers. The initiative is expected to create new livelihood opportunities and empower farmers to become self-reliant. With this innovative project, the Governor's office is taking steps to replicate successful agricultural practices and promote sustainable farming methods in the state.
