US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor shared an update on the India-US trade deal, criticizing the European Union for its delayed negotiations for the free trade agreement with New Delhi.
The US envoy stated that the interim deal between Washington and New Delhi is on the table to be finalized, unlocking prosperity for both nations.
A delegation from the US will review the deal before it's finalized and locked in, with the goal of expanding market access, reducing barriers, and creating greater certainty for businesses on both sides.
Gor took a veiled jibe at the European Union, noting that negotiations between India and the US have lasted for only one and a half years, unlike the 19 years it took for the India-EU FTA to be signed.
The India-US trade deal, announced in February 2026, will bring tariff relief for India by reducing the levy from 50% to 18% and strengthen supply chains, catalyze new investments, and drive sustained inclusive growth.
The US envoy expressed confidence that the trade deal will be finalized in the coming weeks and months, with the goal of achieving $500 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
