The US Department of Homeland Security has launched Project Homecoming, a self-deportation initiative offering free flights and a $2,600 exit bonus to illegal immigrants.

Since its start in May 2023, over 2.2 million migrants have used the CBP Home app to register their intention to leave, providing details and accessing travel help and financial support.

The cost of deportation is estimated at $18,245 per person, but the program reduces this to around $5,100, saving taxpayers over $13,000 per person.

The initiative allows migrants to return home as regular travelers without arrest, detention, or restraints, providing a safe and orderly alternative.
