The US has shared fresh information with India on the role and activities of 26/11 Mumbai attacks co-conspirator Tahawwur Rana as part of a mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) request by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
India has received crucial information from the US under the MLAT on Rana's role, which is being analyzed for further action.
Tahawwur Rana, a 64-year-old former captain of the Pakistan Army, played a key role in the Mumbai terror attacks and has been charged for murder, terrorism, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, and waging war against the country.
The NIA filed a supplementary charge sheet in July last year based on Rana's interrogation, documentary evidence, and statements from several witnesses.
Evidence collected by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is part of NIA's charges in the case, including intercepted conversations and emails between Rana, his childhood friend and co-accused David Coleman Headley, and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) planners in Pakistan.
The Pakistani-Canadian doctor is currently lodged in the Tihar jail in Delhi and is being looked at for his role in LeT's plans to carry out attacks in other parts of the country around the time of the 26/11 attacks.
