A US submarine has sunk an Iranian warship, the 'Iris Dena', in the Indian Ocean, sparking outrage from Tehran and intensifying the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi alleged that the ship, a 'guest of the Indian Navy', was struck without warning by the US.
The sinking of the 'Iris Dena', which was carrying almost 130 sailors, has further escalated tensions in the region, with at least 87 people killed in the incident.
The US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that this is the first sinking of a ship by torpedo by the US in the Indian Ocean since World War 2.
India has rejected claims that the US Navy was using Indian ports for its targeting of Iran, with the Ministry of External Affairs describing the claims as 'fake and false'.
The conflict between the US and Iran has also spilled over to other parts of the Middle East, with Tehran targeting US bases and consulates in several countries.
India has called for dialogue and diplomacy to secure the interests of nearly 10 million Indians living in West Asia.
