The Allahabad High Court has issued a scathing rebuke to the Uttar Pradesh police and bureaucracy, accusing them of prioritizing political loyalty over their duty to uphold the Constitution.

During a hearing, the high court found that police officers were acting to satisfy their political superiors rather than adhering to the law.

The court highlighted several instances of police overreach, including encounter killings and selective crackdowns, which it said were driven by a "feudal mindset" among politicians and bureaucrats.

The bench also flagged the misuse of the UP Gangsters Act, which was invoked in a commercial dispute, and criticized the police for bypassing procedural safeguards and ignoring judicial orders.

The court expressed deep concern over the role of the Home Secretary, who it said had become a conduit for self-serving interests rather than an independent constitutional authority.
