The Uttarakhand high court on Friday denied relief to Kotdwar-based gym owner Deepak Kumar, also known as 'Mohammed' Deepak, and ordered him to refrain from posting on social media about the matter.
Kumar, who defended a Muslim shopkeeper from harassment by Bajrang Dal workers on January 26, had sought to quash a first information report (FIR) filed against him on January 31 and sought FIRs against right-wing leaders who issued threats against him.
Justice Rakesh Thapliyal observed that Kumar, who is accused in the FIR, cannot simultaneously seek police protection while being investigated.
The court emphasized that Kumar should allow the police to do their job and investigate all the cases.
Four FIRs have been registered in connection with the matter, including one on the complaint of the Muslim shopkeeper, Wakeel Ahmed, for the January 26 incident.
The state government told the court that two FIRs were registered on the complaint of the petitioners on February 8 and February 11, which the petitioners had suppressed in their plea.
