The Uttarakhand government is set to introduce draft regulations for bungee jumping activities in the state, aiming to strengthen safety standards and monitor adventure sport operators.

The proposed regulations will cover infrastructure and equipment standards, staff qualifications, safety norms for participants, emergency response protocols, and record maintenance procedures.

Tourism secretary Dheeraj Garbyal said the draft had been prepared after consultations with stakeholders and experts and is expected to be implemented within a month after cabinet approval.

The regulations will introduce provisions for monetary penalties and cancellation of licenses for violations, and align operational standards with internationally accepted norms.

The move comes amid growing concerns over safety standards in the adventure tourism sector, following recent incidents of fatalities and injuries during bungee jumping activities in the state.
