Satyabrata Kumar, a former ED special director, has taken voluntary retirement from service after leading high-profile investigations, including those against Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya.

Kumar, a 2004-batch IRS officer, served in the ED for nearly 12 years and was granted approval for VRS in April.

He led investigations into several high-profile cases, including the USD 2 billion alleged bank fraud case against Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, and the bank loan fraud case against Vijay Mallya.

Kumar also attached several foreign-based assets worth crores in the PNB fraud case and probed the Mahadev betting app case.

This is the second time in less than a year that an officer has resigned from government service soon after leaving the ED.
