Veteran politician Nadenla Bhaskar Rao, co-founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has passed away at 90 in Hyderabad after a prolonged illness. He served as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for one month in 1984.

Bhaskar Rao was a key figure in the TDP, joining hands with N T Rama Rao to launch the party in 1982. He served as the finance minister in NTR's cabinet and briefly became the chief minister in 1984.

After his brief tenure, he launched a "Save the Democracy" movement but was unable to prove his majority on the floor of the House. He later joined the Congress and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1988.

Bhaskar Rao is survived by his son, Andhra Pradesh civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar.
