Tamil Nadu witnessed history on Monday as movie star Vijay made a spectacular entry into electoral politics with his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as the single-largest party.
While TVK secured 108 seats, it fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats, leaving it as a strong contender but not a clear ruler.
Vijay's father and filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar praised his son's 'boldness' as a leader, saying he stands on his own 'with no alliance.'
Chandrasekhar expressed gratitude and joy over Vijay securing a massive victory and appreciated his faith in becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Now that TVK cannot form the government on its own, it may look to secure support from smaller parties or potential allies, with reports suggesting it had reached out to Congress for an alliance before the elections.
