A recent Iftaar party organized by TVK in Poonjeeri, India, turned into chaos as fans broke promises and barricades. The event, which was attended by busloads of cadres, was significantly more organized than the party's inaugural Iftaar held in Chennai.
However, despite the organizers' efforts to maintain order, the crowd became frenzied as Vijay, the party's leader, was about to leave. People started pushing each other to get close to him, and the situation was not much different in the separate enclosure for women and children.
The organizers had attempted to manage the crowd by promising women that Vijay would visit them after the prayers, but this strategy collapsed when it became evident that the actor would not be entering the enclosure. Women then rushed out and started filming Vijay on their phones, zooming tightly on the actor to make it look like they were shooting live.
The event ultimately demonstrated the persistent challenge the fledgling party faces in balancing its political outreach with the sheer scale of its leader's stardom.
