Mizoram’s electoral roll has undergone a significant reshuffle following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with thousands of names deleted and new electors added to the state’s voter list.
According to the final electoral roll published today, a total of 32,280 names were deleted, while 39,243 new electors were added during the revision exercise. As a result, Mizoram’s final electorate stands at 8,35,869, reflecting a net increase of 6,963 voters, or 0.84 per cent, compared with the draft roll.
The final electoral roll also recorded a notable milestone for the state, with Mizoram’s first third-gender elector included in the voter list. The roll comprises 4,03,179 male voters, 4,32,689 female voters, and one third-gender elector.
The inclusion of the third-gender elector marks an important development in Mizoram’s electoral records and highlights the growing recognition of gender diversity within the democratic process.
The SIR exercise was undertaken to update and verify the electoral database by removing ineligible or duplicate entries and incorporating eligible new voters. The publication of the final roll marks the completion of the revision process and provides an updated voter database for upcoming electoral activities in the state.
