French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz has expressed a preference to miss the upcoming tournament rather than rush back from a serious wrist injury.
The 22-year-old withdrew from the Barcelona clay-court tournament last week and also pulled out of the Madrid Open on Friday, casting doubt on his participation in Paris as of May 18.
At an award ceremony, Alcaraz stated that he would rather return to competition in great shape than risk further injury by rushing back.
He emphasized the importance of taking a long-term view, citing the need to recover well to avoid affecting future tournaments.
Alcaraz, the world number two, lost his top ranking following his defeat by Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final on April 12.
