A former Alabama Crimson Tide football player is involved in a major federal fraud case, accused of impersonating NFL players to obtain millions of dollars in loans.

Luther Davis, a defensive lineman from the 2009 national championship team, is facing two felony charges: conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

According to court documents, Davis worked with CJ Evins to carry out the scheme, using wigs, makeup, and fake IDs to pretend to be NFL players during online loan meetings.

The scheme involved creating companies with names similar to NFL players, opening bank accounts, and making fake email IDs in those names.

Davis would then join online loan meetings, dressed in disguise, and provide fake identification documents to convince the notary.

He is accused of taking out 13 fake loans worth over $19.8 million, using the names of players including Michael Penix Jr, David Njoku, and Xavier McKinney.

Davis is expected to plead guilty in the case, with a hearing set for April 27.
