Fabiano Caruana Backs D Gukesh Amid Form Dip

American GM Fabiano Caruana has expressed concerns over D Gukesh's recent slump in form, but remains confident in the Indian star's quality.
Gukesh, 19, has been winless after six games in Prague, having lost three and drawn the remaining three.
Caruana, speaking during the American Cup 2026, said he doesn't read too much into Gukesh's poor form, but acknowledged it's concerning given the World Chess Championship at the end of the year.
Caruana also mentioned that Gukesh's countrymen, R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi, have also been struggling.
The American GM believes it's a small sample size and a short time period, and that Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Arjun Erigaisi are all very young and talented players.
