FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the upcoming World Cup in Mexico, the USA, and Canada will go ahead as planned, with no changes to the schedule. He stated that all teams will participate, despite ongoing concerns over Iran's participation due to the war with the US and Israel.
Infantino made the comments during an online FIFA Council meeting, saying that the organization is committed to using the power of football to build bridges and promote peace. He added that FIFA cannot solve geopolitical conflicts, but it will continue to support the World Cup as a symbol of unity and fair play.
The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, with 48 teams participating in the group stage. Iran is set to play its group stage matches in the United States, but the Iran Football Federation has opened talks with FIFA about potentially relocating its matches.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has offered to host Iran's first-round matches if required, while the Iran Football Federation chief Mehdi Taj has said that the country will boycott the United States but not the World Cup.
