D Gukesh, the youngest-ever world chess champion, has been dealing with higher expectations since his historic win in 2024.

Despite defeating Ding Liren and breaking Garry Kasparov's record, Gukesh's performances have not matched his standards in recent times.

He remains determined to learn from every outing and has acknowledged the need to develop the quality of switching on and off when needed.

Gukesh will face Uzbekistan's Javokhir Sindarov at the upcoming World Chess Championship, where Sindarov earned the right to challenge for the crown after winning the 2026 Candidates tournament.
