The Union Sports Ministry has proposed amendments to the National Anti-Doping Act 2022 to combat the growing menace of doping in Indian sports. The amendments aim to make doping-related activities a criminal offence, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a fine of ₹2 lakh.
Athletes will remain protected from criminal prosecution under the proposed framework, which targets traffickers, illegal suppliers, and organised syndicates involved in doping networks.
The proposed provisions also seek to address advertisements and paid promotions relating to doping substances, and powers related to search and seizure have been given to authorised officers.
The government has invited stakeholders to submit their comments and suggestions on the proposed amendments during the public consultation process by June 18.
