New Delhi: India's chances of advancing in the Billie Jean King Cup (Asia Oceania Group 1) have significantly diminished after a 3-0 loss to Indonesia. Vaishnavi Adkar's loss to Priska Madelyn Nugroho in the first singles was a decisive blow, as she had the opportunity to put pressure on the Indonesian team but ultimately fell short.
Vaishnavi, ranked 21 in the world, lost to Priska 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (7-3), 3-6 in a draining three-hour duel. Sahaja Yamalappalli's match against Janice Tjen was also a tough one, with the Indonesian player emerging victorious 6-2, 6-1 in an hour.
The doubles pair of Ankita Raina and Rutuja Bhosale put up a strong fight against the Indonesian combination of Janice and Aldila Sutjiadi, but ultimately lost 3-6, 7-6 (7-4). Captain Vishal Uppal attributed the loss to missed chances, stating that the team needs to learn to convert their opportunities into wins.
With Korea and Indonesia leading the group, India's next matches against Korea and Mongolia will be crucial in determining their playoff chances.
