Aravindh Chithambaram, the first Indian GM to qualify for the Esports World Cup, believes it's possible to defeat defending champion Magnus Carlsen.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the 26-year-old said, 'If someone can believe that they can take on Magnus, then it's very much possible.'

Chithambaram will represent S8UL in the tournament and secured his berth by winning the Road to EWC qualifier in Atlanta.

He also shared his thoughts on the upcoming World Chess Championships, where D Gukesh will face Javokhir Sindarov and R Vaishali will face Ju Wenjun.

Chithambaram backed Gukesh to perform, saying 'it will be close, it will be 50-50' and that Vaishali can get momentum to make the game close.
