FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets running back Breece Hall watched the New York Knicks celebrate their NBA championship last Saturday night, feeling 'positive jealousy' and motivation for his own team.
The Jets are mired in a 15-year playoff drought, the longest active skid in the NFL, and have not won a Super Bowl since 1969.
However, Hall and other Jets players, including quarterback Geno Smith, are drawing inspiration from the Knicks' dominant run through the playoffs and their first championship since 1973.
'It gives us something to ... a little bit of added motivation,' Smith said. 'We're motivated already, but, man, watching those guys win their championship, it's got to do something to you as a competitor.'
The Jets' head coach, Aaron Glenn, admired the Knicks' tenacity and perseverance, citing their ability to rebound from first-half deficits and showing 'competitive stamina' throughout the series.
While the Knicks prepare for their ticker-tape parade, the Jets and their fans can only imagine: What if we win it all, too, someday?
