Lakshya Sen silences critics with thrilling Australian Open triumph
This is the India No.1’s first title since winning the Syed Modi International in Dec 2024 and his first outside India since the Canada Open in July 2023
In a resounding victory, India's top shuttler Lakshya Sen ended a long title drought, clinching his first trophy of the year at the $475,000 Australian Open in Sydney. The 24-year-old's dominant win over Japan's Yushi Tanaka in the men's singles final (21-15, 21-11) marked a triumphant return to form after a challenging season.
Sen's journey to the top was not without its setbacks. He faced a difficult start to the year, plagued by injuries and inconsistent performance. However, the Almora-born shuttler refused to give up, channeling his energy into a resurgent second half of the season.
"I'm thrilled to have finally broken through and secured a title," Sen said in a post-match interview. "It's been a tough season, but I've worked hard to get back on track, and it's great to see the results paying off.
