Liverpool is on the verge of signing Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet in a £60 million deal, despite the Frenchman not joining until the summer. The 20-year-old was reportedly put off by Chelsea's bloated centre-back squad earlier this month, but Liverpool's desperate need for defensive reinforcements has sealed the deal. Jacquet will join Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the only two centre-back options available to Arne Slot, with Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni sidelined by injury. In other transfer news, Crystal Palace has completed the club-record £48 million signing of Norway forward Jorgen Strand Larsen on a four and a half year contract. The move comes after Palace believed they were about to lose France striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to AC Milan, but the transfer collapsed due to medical concerns over a knee injury.
