Lou Holtz, the renowned College Football Hall of Fame coach, has passed away at 89. The legendary coach, who led Notre Dame to the 1988 championship, was surrounded by his family when he died in Orlando, Florida. His official cause of death remains unrevealed.
Notre Dame President Rev Robert A Dowd mourned the loss of Holtz, describing him as a 'teacher, leader, and mentor' who brought out the best in his players. Holtz's impressive coaching record includes 249-132-7, ranking him 10th all-time in career victories by a Football Bowl Subdivision coach.
One of Holtz's most memorable moments was his iconic newspaper trick, which has resurfaced after his passing. The trick, which he performed on ESPN during a 2015 speech to the Texas Longhorns, left fans stunned.
Holtz's coaching career spanned 33 seasons, with notable stints at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, and Notre Dame. He also had a successful broadcasting career and motivational speaking career after retiring from coaching.
