Switzerland's Marco Odermatt claimed his 48th World Cup win on Thursday, dominating the downhill event at Beaver Creek, Colorado. The four-time World Cup overall champion, who also won the 2022 Olympic giant slalom gold, delivered an aggressive run to finish in 1:29.84, outpacing American Ryan Cochran-Siegle by 0.30 seconds and Norway's Adrian Smiseth Sejersted by 0.69 seconds. Odermatt expressed his delight at winning the event, which was moved forward due to impending bad weather. 'I'm very happy to win for the first time here in the downhill. I felt really good while skiing,' he said. The piste conditions were ideal, allowing Odermatt to fully trust his skiing. Cochran-Siegle, the 2022 Olympic silver medallist, secured his fourth World Cup podium and first on American soil, while Sejersted's third-place finish was a surprise, considering he finished 22nd at Beaver Creek a year ago. Slovenian skier Rok Aznoh suffered a hard crash during his run and was taken down the hill in a sled. The Beaver Creek World Cup event will continue on Friday with the Super-G, before a large snowstorm is expected to hit the area on Saturday, potentially dropping up to 30 centimeters of snow over the weekend.
