Olympic medallist Gagan Narang has filed for NRAI president, challenging incumbent Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo in the December 4 elections.
New Delhi: Olympic medallist Gagan Narang has entered the fray for the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) presidency, setting the stage for a December 4 showdown in Mohali. Narang will compete against incumbent president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, who has been at the helm since 2024.
Narang, a former rifle shooter and coach, has filed his nomination for the top post and also thrown his hat in the ring for the vice-president position. His nomination has come as a surprise, as his name was not previously mentioned as a contender.
The NRAI elections will also see a contest for the treasurer's post, with Ashok Mittal and Meghasham Shripad Bhangle vying for the position. Pawan Kumar Singh, a former rifle shooter and current joint secretary, is set to become the secretary general with no other nominations received for the post.
The NRAI elections aim to elect an 11-member executive committee and 25 members of the governing body for the term 2025-2029. The last day for withdrawing nominations is November 27, with the final publication of the list scheduled for November 28.
