As the 2026 Winter Olympics kick off in Milano Cortina, Italy, Indian cross-country skier Stanzin Lundup's participation remains uncertain. Despite being the top Indian performer in cross-country skiing at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships last year, Lundup's entry was challenged by Manjeet in the Delhi high court. The court ruled in Manjeet's favor, ordering the Centre and the Indian Olympic Association to include him in the squad. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rejected IOA's request to accommodate Manjeet's entry, citing that India's participation in the event is 'not at risk.' This means Lundup can still participate, pending approval from the union sports ministry to clear his travel. Lundup, who has been waiting nine years to represent India, expressed his anxiety about missing the opening ceremony on Friday. A 29-year-old Armyman from Ladakh, Lundup has been competing since 2017 and has used his own funds to participate in world events to gain ranking points that helped him qualify for the Winter Games.
