R Vaishali, the 24-year-old Indian chess player, has extended her lead in the Women's Candidates tournament after a stunning win with a rook trap.

In Round 11, Vaishali was playing with the Black pieces against Aleksandra Goryachkina and appeared to be in a peaceful position, but she set up a clever trap for White's rook and her unsuspecting opponent walked right into it.

Vaishali's clever play took barely a minute to execute, and Goryachkina was left with no escape squares, resulting in a rook endgame with no light at the end of the tunnel.

This is Vaishali's fourth win in six games, taking her to a clear one-point lead in the Women's Candidates with just three rounds remaining.

In the Open section, all four games were drawn, with Javokhir Sindarov remaining undefeated and holding a two-point lead in the tournament.
