Hilton Head Island, Sahith Theegala kicked off his week at the RBC Heritage with an impressive opening round of 2-under 69, placing him T-27 on the leaderboard in the $20m Signature event.
Although six shots behind the leader, Sweden's Ludvig Aberg, Theegala's start was encouraging, making three birdies in the first four holes and four in the first seven.
However, he gave up some of those gains on the back nine, making bogeys on the 10th, 11th, and 18th holes, with only one birdie on the 15th hole.
Other players of Indian origin, Akshay Bhatia and Sudarshan Yellamaraju, had slower starts, with Bhatia carding 2-over 73 and Yellamaraju carding 3-over 74.
Ludvig Aberg, seeking his third PGA Tour title, led the pack with a bogey-free round of 8-under 63, followed closely by Harris English and Viktor Hovland, who are tied for second place after carding 7-under 64 each.
