The San Jose Sharks have made a significant move to bolster their playoff chances, acquiring Vancouver Canucks leading goal scorer Kiefer Sherwood in a trade. The 30-year-old forward will join the Sharks after being dealt for defenseman Cole Clayton and two second-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027.Sherwood, who is in the final year of his contract, has recorded 23 points in 44 games this season. He expressed gratitude towards the Canucks organization and acknowledged the opportunity to join a playoff contender. 'This is really a special place to play,' he said.Sherwood, who has been out with an undisclosed injury since January 12, has accumulated 121 points over 309 games with the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, and Canucks. He is expected to miss the Sharks' upcoming games due to injury.Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin stated that the trade was necessary to continue building their pipeline, given the direction of their rebuild. Clayton, who has yet to make his NHL debut, will report to Abbotsford in the AHL.
