New Delhi: At just 14, Samrat Rana first showcased his shooting prowess in 2019, winning a gold medal and a Renault Kwid in an open championship in Faridabad. This year, he's made headlines by winning the 10m air pistol title at the Cairo World Championships, leaving behind world champions and Olympic medalists in his wake. Rana's journey to the top is nothing short of incredible. Despite being a dark horse in his first senior final, he topped the qualification and outshot Chinese Hu Kai in a nail-biting final. The 19-year-old's performance has left everyone stunned, including his father Ashok Kumar, who introduced him to the sport. Rana credits his father for teaching him the techniques and providing guidance throughout his career. 'My father is my coach,' he said. 'He has never put any pressure on me to deliver results.' Rana's dedication to the sport is evident in his daily routine, which consists of training and studying. In addition to his individual title, Rana also won a silver medal in the mixed team event alongside Esha Singh. The duo will be in action again on Friday, competing in the 25m sports pistol final. Meanwhile, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh are in contention for a place in the final, with Esha currently placed fourth and Manu seventh.
