Washington: 17-year-old Indian squash talent Anahat Singh has made a statement in the squash world, capturing the Squash on Fire Open title in Washington. The bronze-level event on the PSA tour saw Anahat emerge victorious against top seed and world No.10 Georgina Kennedy of England, winning 12-10, 11-5, 11-7 in the final on Sunday. This historic win not only marks the biggest title of Anahat's career but also propels her to world No.19 in the latest rankings, a 12-place leap. The victory comes at a crucial time, as the qualification path to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics was recently announced, with 8 spots per gender reserved through the world ranking route. Anahat's path to the final was impressive, as she defeated higher-ranked opponents, including seventh-seeded Egyptian world No.17 Sana Ibrahim and American world No. 23 Sabrina Sobhy. This win marks a significant turnaround for Anahat, who had previously lost to Kennedy 3-0 in their previous meeting at the Canadian Women's Open last year. "I'm extremely happy with my performance," Anahat said in a statement. "I've been working hard to improve my game, and it's paying off. I'm glad I was able to turn around my previous loss against Georgina and come out on top.
