A Mexican national, Lorenzo Rojas-Martinez, has been arrested for allegedly operating a drone in restricted airspace during a FIFA World Cup event in Atlanta.

According to the US Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia, Rojas-Martinez was taken into custody after flying an unmanned aircraft near Centennial Olympic Park on June 12.

Federal prosecutors charged him with operating a drone in a temporary flight-restricted zone and illegal re-entry into the United States.

Rojas-Martinez has a history of deportations, having been removed from the country in 2013 and 2019, and is accused of entering the US for a third time.

He has prior convictions for drug trafficking, possession of stolen property, and other crimes.

The charges stem from the alleged drone flight near the FIFA Fan Festival, which is designated as a 'No Drone Zone' by FIFA.
