Wales captain Dewi Lake hailed their 31-17 victory over Italy as 'everything' after ending a 15-match losing streak in the Six Nations. The Welsh ran in three converted tries before-half-time to lead 21-0 at the break, with Aaron Wainwright crossing twice and hooker Lake also scoring.
Dan Edwards added another try early in the second half, and Italy managed a trio of tries inside the final half hour, but Wales' lead proved too much to overcome.
Despite still finishing bottom of the table, the win was a significant boost for the Welsh team, who had been plagued by infighting over the Welsh Rugby Union's plan to reduce the number of professional club teams.
Italy captain Michele Lamaro denied that the visitors had suffered an emotional and physical 'hangover' from their win over England last weekend, instead attributing their loss to a poor first half.
