The New York Rangers have suffered a double blow as defenseman Adam Fox and goaltender Igor Shesterkin have both been placed on injured reserve due to separate lower-body injuries. Fox, who recently returned from a month-long absence due to an upper-body injury, will be out for at least 10 more games after being placed on long-term injured reserve. This setback comes after he played a full game against Utah but failed to participate in overtime. Shesterkin, the 2022 Vezina Trophy winner, suffered an awkward leg injury while trying to avoid a collision in the first period against Utah. He was forced to leave the game and could be out for at least three games, potentially returning on January 14 against Ottawa. Rangers coach Mike Sullivan expressed hope that Shesterkin's injury wasn't too severe, given his importance to the team. Fox's extended absence may impact his chances of representing the US at the Olympics, as he was considered a likely injury replacement. Meanwhile, Florida's Seth Jones, who was selected to the US Olympic team, suffered an injury in the Winter Classic and is considered week-to-week, although the Panthers expect him to return before the Olympic break in February.
