Ericsson's 5G Forecast, Apple's AI Secrets, and Foldable Phones' Uncertain Future

This week, Ericsson's Mobility Report predicted India's 5G subscriptions will reach 1.1 billion by 2031, accounting for 81% of total connections. In contrast, 5G subscriptions will make up 35% of total mobile subscriptions by the end of 2025, with 570 million 4G users upgrading to better plans.

Ericsson India notes that 5G adoption is driven by affordable smartphones, wider network coverage, and the rollout of 5G FWA services. Globally, 5G FWA connections are strongest in North America, the Nordics, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and parts of Asia.

Apple's AI conversation has been a topic of discussion, with some critics pointing out the lack of agentic AI. However, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, explained that the company's AI is designed to minimize data sent to the cloud and ensure user privacy.

The foldable phone market has seen a decline in shipment volume, with prices and utility being key concerns. Chinese phone maker Huawei dominates the foldable market, followed by Samsung and Honor. With Apple's expected launch of a foldable iPhone in September, the market may see a reset in benchmarks.
