A tanker carrying Iranian crude oil is en route to India's west coast, marking the first such import in nearly seven years, according to maritime tracking sites.
The Eswatini-flagged Ping Shun is expected to reach the Vadinar offshore terminal by April 4, but government officials and crude agents at the Kandla port have no knowledge of the ship's arrival.
The vessel loaded crude from Iran's Kharg Island and previously flashed a Chinese destination, but its current route is subject to fulfilling all legal documentation mandated by international maritime protocols.
India imports nearly 90% of its crude oil, half of its liquefied natural gas, and two-thirds of its LPG, most of which comes from West Asia through the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran's crackdown on traffic has choked off global supplies since February 28.
