Actress Bhumi Pednekar has kicked off 2026 on a positive note with her new show, Daldal, where she plays a complex, grey character for the first time. The show, which sees her portray DCP Rita Ferreira, a Mumbai cop with a dark past, has received praise from critics and audiences alike. In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Bhumi opens up about her character, criticism, and how she deals with being undermined by trolls on social media. Bhumi reveals that she was initially hesitant about taking on the role due to its similarity to other shows on Indian OTT. However, after reading the script, she was convinced that Daldal was different, thanks to its unique writing and focus on the 'why' behind a crime rather than the 'who.' Her character, Rita, is a loud and unlikable protagonist who lives a double life, marking a departure from Bhumi's typical roles. When asked about her approach to dealing with criticism and trolling, Bhumi reveals that she finds strength in her work and lets her actions speak louder than words. She admits that she has never felt the need to respond to unconstructive criticism, saying that it's pointless to engage with people whose opinions she doesn't value. Instead, she channels her energy into her work, using it as a way to come back stronger. Daldal, which also stars Aditya Rawal and Samara Tijori, is based on Vish Dhamija's bestselling novel Bhendi Bazaar and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Bhumi's performance in the show has been well-received, and she hopes to continue playing complex characters that push her as an actress.
