The upcoming Bollywood film O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor, has been hit with a lawsuit by the daughter of the real-life gangster it's based on. Sanober Shaikh, daughter of Hussain Ustara, claims the film, directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is an unauthorized biopic that portrays her father's life falsely. Sanober filed a civil suit in a Mumbai court, alleging that the film's release on February 13 would cause irreparable harm to her and her children. She argues that O Romeo is being made for commercial gain without her consent and that the film's portrayal of her father would besmirch his character. The film is based on Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, which explores the lives of Mumbai's underworld figures. Sanober claims that O Romeo is more than just a work of fiction, citing a podcast interview with a former police officer who links the film to her father's life. Vishal Bharadwaj and Sajid Nadiadwala have denied Sanober's claims, stating that O Romeo is a work of fiction based on Zaidi's book. However, Sanober has submitted evidence to support her allegations, including the podcast interview and other materials. The court will hear the matter on February 6, with Sanober seeking a permanent injunction to stop the film's release. The lawsuit has sparked concerns about the portrayal of real-life individuals in Bollywood films and the potential consequences for those affected. O Romeo stars Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, and other prominent actors, and is set to release on February 13. However, the lawsuit may hinder the film's release, depending on the court's decision.
