James Cameron's highly-anticipated Avatar: Fire and Ash has made a respectable start at the global box office, earning $345 million in its opening weekend. While this is a significant achievement, it falls short of expectations, particularly in the domestic market. The film's overseas performance, particularly in China, where it broke a record with a $57.6 million start, helped it meet projections and stay on track. In the US, Avatar: Fire and Ash earned $88 million, as predicted, with Disney reporting a staggering $257 million in international earnings. However, this still puts it behind some of the year's biggest hits, including Disney's animated feature Zootopia 2, which broke records with a $560 million start earlier this year. The film also trails Barbie, Moana 2, and Ne Zha 2 in terms of opening weekend earnings. The Avatar franchise, which has been a global phenomenon since its debut in 2009, has continued to captivate audiences with its epic storytelling and stunning visuals. The third installment introduces a new antagonist, played by Oona Chaplin, and sees Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington reprise their roles as the franchise's lead characters. With a fourth and fifth film scheduled for release in 2029 and 2031, fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Avatar saga.
