The 79th Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 12, with South Korean director Park Chan-wook leading the jury that awards the Palme d'Or.
Park Chan-wook has defended the role of politics in film, saying that art and politics are not in conflict with each other.
‘I don’t think politics and art should be divided. I think it’s a strange concept to think that they’re in conflict with each other,’ he said during a press conference.
The other members of the jury include Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Chloé Zhao, Diego Céspedes, Isaach de Bankolé, Paul Laverty, and Stellan Skarsgård.
They will be judging 22 films in competition, including new works by Pedro Almodóvar, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Paweł Pawlikowski, Cristian Mungiu and Andrey Zvyagintsev.
